3 Tips for Eating Out on a Budget

3 Tips for Eating Out on a Budget

Eating out is great. Scratch that. Eating out is amazing. Sometimes there’s nothing better than having someone else cook your dinner for you, especially after a long day. But the thing is eating out is not great for your wallet.

Being the money conscious people that we are we’ve picked up a number of different tricks to help us eat out on a budget. Today we’re going to share them with you.

1. Check out deal sites

We use deal sites A LOT. This includes sites such as Groupon, Scoopon and Cudo. These sites partner with a range of different businesses, including restaurants and cafes, to offer ‘deals’ on their products or services. These deals are usually heavily discounted from what you’d usually pay for that product or service. For example we’re currently looking at buying a deal for dinner for two that includes burgers, fries and alcohol for $34. If we had gone into the restaurant and had ordered those items without the deal, our total would have come to almost double that price!

Top tip: Groupon ALWAYS have some sort of special promotion running for an extra discount on the deals on their site. It’s usually a code for 5%, 10% or 15% off. Never buy a deal without one of these. If we want to purchase a deal we always wait until a discount code pops up… which usually happens within a week.

2. Checkout discount code sites

Following on from deal sites we also frequently use discount code sites. The deal site that we use is Frugal Feeds, however there are many more out there! Frugal Feeds primarily consists of take out discount codes but also includes codes for food delivery apps and restaurants.

We frequently use Frugal Feeds for up to date deals on Hungry Jacks and Dominos. *Update: this post was written prior to Lydia being diagnosed as Coeliac, we no longer eat at these places*

Top tip: Frugal Feeds also posts about any new or upcoming products. We usually find out about any new product releases from Frugal Feeds.

3. Follow your favourite restaurants

If you aren’t already you should follow your favourite restaurants on social media. Restaurants regularly run their own specials or may even have the occasional giveaway. Following your favourite restaurants on social media means that you’ll know when your favourite restaurant has a deal, promotion or giveaway going on.

Prior to heading out to a restaurant we’ll usually check their Instagram to see if they have any promotions or deals doing on. We have seen businesses post one off deals such as a ‘free drink’ on a certain day, a discount on their newest menu item or a midweek discounted price on their quieter days.

On the day of this picture we got a $1 burger from Huxtaburger because we kept up to date with their social media and knew they were running this promotion on the day of their launch.

That’s it

We hope we’ve helped you eat out on a budget. If you have any money sharing tips please feel free to share them with us!

Hey! I’m Lydia. Alongside loving crafts and gaming, I’m food obsessed. Early 2020 I was diagnosed as Coeliac, which turned our lives upside down. From then on both Wehan and I became extremely passionate about creating all of the foods we love without sacrificing taste or texture. While I have no professional cooking experience AT ALL, I’m constantly in the kitchen trying out new recipes.
